Summary: As the Head Sommelier, you will help maintain the wine program's integrity, provide thoughtful wine service, and work closely with the Wine Team to ensure guest satisfaction. You will also work with the Wine Director to manage the wine list and facilitate staff training.

  • 3+ years of experience as a Sommelier in a fast-paced NYC restaurant
  • Lifting and carrying at least 50 pounds
  • Standing for long periods
  • Comfortable with repetitive motions (walking, bending, standing)
  • Knowledgeable about industry critics and awards
  • Full schedule availability
  • Ability to take constructive criticism and work well in a team dynamicThe wine list showcases diverse wines from major winegrowing regions. We strive for a mix of historic and forward-thinking wines. To achieve this, you will need an open mind and passion for great wine from various provenance.We believe in a 'whole house' mentality, where all departments support and motivate each other. As a Head Sommelier, you will interact with all departments regularly and should be able to communicate effectively and respectfully with colleagues and managers.The Head Sommelier position is a full-time job requiring full availability on weeknights. Our restaurants are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.As a Head Sommelier, specific certifications are not required, but you should have a strong fundamental knowledge of the wine regions, producer familiarity, and vintage knowledge. The most essential component will be clear communication, organization, and a willingness to share expertise with guests and staff.Job responsibilities include:
    • Maintaining a clean, well-organized wine cellar
    • Keeping staff informed about beverage changes on the wine list
    • Assisting with monthly inventory
    • Updating the wine list using BinWise
    • Curating the wine list through tastings and selecting wines with the Wine Director
    • Managing inventory of WBTG items and creating purchase orders
    • Confirming accurate deliveries
    • Restocking and putting away wine deliveries
    • Overseeing WBTG training for dining room employees
