The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based
on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental
budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses,
specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the
University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of
possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
Oversees the programs and services for faculty on the Morningside
campus. The Director seeks out new ideas at the forefront of
educational development and oversees all planning for
projects/programs in pedagogy, course development, inclusion and
equity, and technology integration. Also provides leadership to
develop and align programs and services with other CTL Directors.
Partners with the Executive Director to provide leadership among
the other CTL Directors for center-wide initiatives and
collaborations that raise the profile and visibility of the Center.
Facilitates collaboration among different teams within the Center
to execute these initiatives. Leads opportunities that define and
extend the reach of the CTL through collaborations with faculty,
centers, and institutes.
Responsibilities
- Provides direction and leadership for faculty programs,
services, and strategic initiatives with a focus on serving the
needs of faculty, departments, and schools. Sets and models
standards of service and quality of programs and projects. Ensures
that all programs and services are based on current learning
research and best practices in educational development. Coordinates
these efforts with the Director of CUIMC Faculty Programs and
Services.
- Partners with the Executive Director and other CTL leadership
to explore opportunities that extend the reach of the CTL through
collaborations with faculty, centers, and institutes. Serves as a
focal point for contact with faculty leadership to broaden outreach
efforts; orchestrates high-level presentations and strong
communications campaigns. Develops long-term relationships with key
stakeholders.
- Recruits and supervises FPS Morningside campus staff, including
associate directors, assistant directors, and a team of learning
designers. Provides overall direction to staff on teaching and
learning issues.
- Participates and advises committees, in alignment with
institutional priorities, to shape the current and future landscape
of teaching and learning.
- Works with the Associate Director of Assessment on capturing
appropriate data for measuring program impact. Contributes to the
work of the CTL internally (such as processes, staff professional
development, ongoing assessment, priority initiatives, and
collaborations) and externally (through outreach, and representing
the CTL in on-campus and off-campus venues).
- Directs CTL RFP process, including overseeing grant proposal
administration, identifying potential opportunities for faculty
innovation, and facilitating the assignment of CTL in-kind support
for funded projects.
- Engages with the teaching and learning literature, considers
trends, and experiments with innovations in faculty and educational
development. Encourages and plans targeted journal and conference
participation
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 7 to 9 years of related
experience; advanced degree highly desirable.
- University teaching experience and well-developed teaching,
research, and assessment skills.
- Experience in designing, facilitating, and evaluating faculty
development programs.
- Significant experience providing faculty consultations,
teaching support programming, and teaching observations.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication
skills.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the literature and research on
teaching and learning, higher education, and academic
leadership.
- Record of active participation in, and contribution to national
and/or international professional organizations in teaching and
learning.
- Experience collaborating effectively with administrators,
academic units, faculty, staff, and other partners.
- Experience recruiting and managing a team of full-time
employees with a variety of backgrounds.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity in the
higher education environment.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD or equivalent. Experience in a teaching center at a major
research university.
